The Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee approved a bipartisan bill to reauthorize the Elementary & Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The legislation contains provisions gifted education advocates have long been calling for.
The Every Child Achieves Act was unanimously approved after a series of amendments were considered. Notably for gifted education supporters, Senator Barbara Mikulski’s (MD) amendment to restore the Javits Gifted Education Act to ESEA was approved by the Committee on a voice vote. As you know, the Javits program supports the National Center for Research on Gifted Education as well as demonstration research grants. In 2015, the Act will also support grants to states to support gifted education activities.
